Yogyakarta - often locally simply shortened - is in the heart of the beautiful tourist island of Java Indonesia, and is a fantastic taste of which come with the rest of this phenomenal island. Surrounded by beautiful white terraces, supported by the striking Mount Merapi and a stone's throw from some truly world-class beaches, Java Heartland could throw rustic and backward times but is also comfortable and more than a little spellbound.

The backward nature of Java in fact is a large part of the complaint. Leave your hotel in Yogyakarta, your options for getting around the city become horse and wagon include the back of a dodgy local's motorcycle and a bicycle rickshaw - a kind of tiny pedal-powered rickshaw. The city streets are perfect souvenir material: made handicrafts and post cards seller and Temple from thousands of years to explore and photograph flooded.

The locals are remarkably uneasy with the modern - a great thing for those who their journey a little nervous is the city like - and as a result home of some seriously old-fashioned but absolutely fascinating sites. Eccentric local artist Affandi, for example, his life lived production Impressionist masterpieces in a Treehouse at the gates of the city, a sight which now a museum the local heroes become. The now is greater craton compound, the former home of a local Sultan and now occupied thousands of locals, the home of their own institutions and is a major city in the city.

The city market is home to huge spices and local fruits and vegetables, and dealers many of the same family home, for decades, during the Purawisata theme park entertainment, including performances is a taste of traditional Java style traditional dance, a fair and difficult to local games to master.

There is hardly a better taste which traditional Indonesia as this special city to see an absolute must for every visitor in Java and home to some of the rather unusual customs that you probably could stumble on your travels.
